Myth #1: Baccarat is Only for High Rollers
Baccarat has a reputation for being a game for high rollers, but this is not entirely true. Traditionally, in land-based casinos, you will be encountered by high entry bet requirements. For example, a venue such as Crown Melbourne could expect you to put down a minimum of $1,000 per hand – perhaps even more if you are in one of those private rooms.
However, nowadays, with online baccarat, you are not financially excluded from playing the game. When you play online, you can bet as little as $1 per hand if you like. This means your bankroll goes further, and you don’t put yourself in financial trouble to play a game.
So, although baccarat used to be a game mainly associated with rich people, you can now feel like James Bond while playing baccarat online.
Myth #2: Baccarat is Hard to Learn
Baccarat is not hard to learn or play. This idea comes from the fact that there are some rules about when the dealer and player get a new card and that scores don’t go over a value of 10. However, the rules governing these actions are fairly simple.
You really only need to play a few hands before you get the hang of it. Unlike some of the other popular card-based gambling games (such as poker and blackjack), outcomes in baccarat are entirely based on luck. This means you don’t have to stress about strategy; you place your bet and hope to win!
This makes playing the game a lot more accessible to players who don’t want to put any work into studying new techniques.
Myth #3: Betting Systems Will Help You Win More Games
For some reason, people have dumb beliefs about betting systems. A betting system is a structured way to approach gambling. You increase or decrease your bet size based on the result of your last bet. A good betting system can help your bankroll go further if you stick to positive progression systems instead of negative progression systems.
However, it is important to note that your bet size has no impact on the odds you face in baccarat or any other gambling game (betting system fallacies are pretty common in roulette.)
You increasing your bet does not remove any of the randomness you face in the game. It also does not help you play on outcomes statistically likely to happen. So, why would you win more games using such methods?
Myth #4: You Can Detect a Natural
Like you can’t predict whether the next hand will be a win or a loss, you can’t predict that the next hand will be a natural. Many players think they can use techniques from other games (such as card counting, which we will get into later) to predict upcoming hands. However, this is not true.
You cannot predict upcoming hands unless a game is rigged. Every outcome is independent of the last, and you will not win the next hand because you lost the last one. Similarly, the next hand won’t randomly be natural because the last six hands weren’t.
Myth #5: Card Counting Works
Card counting is a popular strategy in blackjack, where you number cards and predict whether high or low-value cards are more likely to appear. Overall, the strategy can help players see big gains in blackjack.
However, the game dynamics that allow card counting to be effective in blackjack are not present in baccarat. Firstly, in baccarat, the aim isn’t to beat another player’s hand; it is to pick which hand you think will win. Because you can bet on either yourself or the dealer, there are hard rules about when you receive an extra card. This messes up all attempts to card count.
In addition, cards are not returned to the shoe as in blackjack. So, you can’t manipulate the deck in the same way.
Myth #6: Online Baccarat is Rigged
Online baccarat is not rigged. It isn’t rigged if you play at a safe online casino licensed and regulated by trusted gambling regulators that hold them accountable.
In fact, it’s more likely for an online casino to offer you fair casino games and refuse to pay you when you win as opposed to offering rigged games from the start. The reason is that software providers are also associated with trust, so they don’t rig their games.
Thus, for an online casino to rig their games, they need to be offering titles of their own design, which is not always in the realm of possibility for each of these companies. So, you can be assured that games are not rigged – provide you are playing at a trusted site.
